Litter and illegal dumping strategy, auditing and compliance

Our Resource Recovery team can work with you to prevent litter and illegal dumping.

We work with councils, government agencies, regulators and community organisations at every stage to build capability in areas of source control, auditing, strategy, education, behaviour change, policy, infrastructure, cleanup, surveillance and enforcement.

The Resource Recovery team can develop, deliver and report on your audit program, with auditors trained in common methodologies including the Australian Litter Measure, Local Litter Checks and site-specific behavioural assessments.

Using your existing data, our experts can develop strategies, action plans with place-based interventions, or personal engagement to provide policy advice focused on improving your organisation’s approach to litter and illegal dumping.

Source control is something we place strong emphasis on. We support councils in developing proactive policies and programs to remove sources of litter and illegal dumping. This includes event waste management programs, construction waste management programs, or guidance for permit systems to improve skip bin and kerbside hard rubbish systems.

The Resource Recovery team also has regulatory capabilities and can assist you with regulatory guidance, development and improvement of regulatory programs, and training for investigation and enforcement.

Hilary believes in transforming waste to regenerate our environment and nourish our communities. Through considered management and appropriate treatment, wastewater and organic by-products can be used to enhance resource recovery, improve soil health and develop local circular economies. As a process engineer with expertise in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, Hilary’s experience includes strategic planning, concept design, regulatory approvals, contaminant investigations and environmental risk. In 2023 Hilary received a Churchill Fellowship, travelling throughout Europe to investigate biosolids regulation and use. With a background in wastewater operations, Hilary has a strong emphasis on developing strategies and management plans that are practical and site-specific.

Carl is a socio-environmental scientist with 15 years’ experience in planning, delivery and evaluation of agriculture and natural resource management programs, integrated water management, climate change and stakeholder engagement. He understands the practical implications of policy and science on communities and agriculture. Carl has worked with a range of government departments, resource management agencies, research and development corporations, private organisations and communities around Australia on catchment management, sustainable water use, resource management in agriculture/horticulture, land use, climate change, strategic planning, industry development, extension and practice change.

She wants to link this interest with interdisciplinary environmental projects in climate change mitigation, sustainable natural resource management and agricultural production systems.

Gemma is an environmental engineer who is passionate about sustainable water management and environmental protection.

She has six years’ experience in the water sector with technical skills in water quality, water resources and groundwater. She has applied her broad range of skills to deliver several large and complex projects relating to the assessment and management of land, groundwater and surface water.

She has planned and delivered environmental assessment projects for a range of public and private clients. She has prepared reports including conceptual site models, drought response plans, technical discussion papers, as well as contributed to other corporate documents e.g. urban water strategy and annual reports.

Gemma has experience working with emerging contaminants, including the assessment and management of PFAS. Gemma has experience scoping, planning and reporting on environmental assessment works according to industry standards. She has working knowledge of environmental regulatory framework.

Gemma has undertaken modelling of water resources, including demand forecasting, drought testing and yield assessments. She has developed and implemented data management processes to improve efficiencies.

Casey is proficient in auditing practices that enhance operational efficiency to promote a circular economy. Her understanding of the management of waste by-products from industrial processes has allowed Casey to develop innovative solutions that comply with environmental regulations.

Having worked in both the public and private sectors in Australia Casey has successfully managed a variety of environmental projects while building strong relationships with all stakeholders.  Casey is committed to driving impactful environmental initiatives that contribute to a sustainable future.

Anne-Maree has 25 years’ experience in dealing with natural resource and water management in agricultural industries. This has included research and development and consulting in the areas of sustainable management practices, water use efficiency, recycled water and environmental management systems. Anne-Maree has been a Non-Executive Director for GWRDC and IAL, is a Churchill Fellow and recipient of the University of Melbourne Chancellors Prize. She has extensive experience as a knowledge broker and establishing partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups including government, water and agricultural industries.
