With over 80 of our staff working in six offices and remotely across Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and Queensland, RMCG’s annual combined staff meeting is an invaluable time for our team to meet in person, get to know each other and the work that underpins our business, and ensure we continue working together effectively to deliver meaningful and impactful projects for our clients.
This year’s conference focused on building on our strengths, connecting with each other and reflecting on our approaches to the work we do – as individuals, as teams, and as an organisation. With the natural beauty of Anglesea as a backdrop, we learnt more about the diverse expertise of our staff and projects across agriculture, the environment, water, resource recovery, communities, economics and land use planning.
In an Anglesea ‘project showcase’, our team ventured outdoors to witness our recent work in the local area. The featured projects highlighted the multi-disciplinary knowledge of our staff – from estuary management in the wake of environmental threats, the feasibility of using recycled water to fill a decommissioned coal mine and the diverse flora, fauna and ecosystems that make up Anglesea’s heathlands.

During the conference, staff also shared their insights, experiences and lessons from large-scale and complex projects. This included:

As a business we are always looking to work more effectively and support our staff, so the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and diversity and inclusion were key discussion points during the conference.
We held robust discussions on the fine balance of using AI to increase efficiency and test new ideas while managing the risks and challenges involved in this emerging space to maintain the integrity of our work.
Our team also shared our progress in making RMCG a more inclusive place to work, from flexible working arrangements to recent updates to our employee bargaining agreement. We also brainstormed what more could be done to meet current and future staff needs, and continue strengthening this area of the business.
A special thank you to Melissa Ludeman, Daryl Poole and our Business Support Team who worked tirelessly to organise the logistics and make the conference happen!
