Supporting innovative compost use

The national peak body for organic processors and recyclers, the Australian Organics Recycling Association (AORA), recently held its annual dinner for Victoria, celebrating achievements across the industry. The event hosted over 90 representatives from organic processors, to industry suppliers and state government organisations.

RMCG sponsored the award for ‘Compost User Demonstrating Innovation and Advocacy in Agricultural Markets’ in providing recognition to industry. Dr Anne-Maree Boland, RMCG Managing Principal said “Innovation is really important to RMCG, we’re pleased to support the innovation and advocacy of compost use.

Kilter Rural of Northern Victoria received the award for demonstrating their innovation and advocacy through the process of restoring their land to profitable production. Achieving organic certification for over 1000ha of land, Michael Neville and his team have overcome traditional obstacles of broadacre compost use through an evidence-based approach. They have also maintained a strong community presence, taking on indigenous trainees and Vietnam veterans, as well as sponsoring local schools and sporting clubs.

“We’re keen to support Kilter Rural’s demonstration of compost use over broadacre, marginal areas” said Dr Boland.
