Soil Health Position Paper
RMCG prepared a soil health position paper for the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) on how soils and soil health fit into the responsibilities and interests of the organisation. The WGCMA has long seen soil health as a very important part of good catchment management. However, there has been little clarity from State and National levels on soil health policy and investment.
With the assistance of RMCG, the CMA chose to clarify its position on the importance of soil health as both a response to community interest in soil health and to position the CMA for future investment from State and Commonwealth governments.
RMCG worked with an advisory group from the CMA to develop this position paper. We used our strong understanding of the emerging government policy position to develop a regionally appropriate policy. One of the objectives of this project was to create a policy position that enabled the WGCMA to act quickly if and when opportunities arise. The paper was completed and approved by the CMA Board, and is now being used to drive development of a soil investment program within the region.
