Invasive Plants and Animals Strategy
RMCG worked with the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority to develop the Invasive Plants and Animals Strategy for their region.
This strategy was based on the biosecurity approach to managing invasive plants and animals. This project required RMCG to apply a thorough understanding of all aspects of IPA management particularly the concepts of prevention, eradication and containment, and asset protection. A key task was the development of priorities for the protection of assets at risk from invasive plants and animals. RMCG developed and applied a method for prioritising among the many assets threatened by invasive plants and animals.
RMCG worked with the Government guidelines, the Victorian IPA Policy Framework, the State Biosecurity Strategy and local needs to develop a strategy that met the needs of all of these stakeholders. This also involved significant community and stakeholder engagement and consultation to ensure the strategy reflected the needs of local land managers and service delivery agencies involved in the management of pest plants and animals.
